L・M・モンゴメリ（赤毛のアン）について

ルーシー・モード・モンゴメリ（Lucy Maud Montgomery、1874年11月30日 – 1942年4月24日）はカナダの小説家である。『赤毛のアン』の作者であり、本作を第一作とする連作シリーズ「アン・ブックス」で良く知られている。彼女の小説は英語で記されている。生涯 / ルーシー・モード・モンゴメリは1874年11月30日に、カナダ東部プリンス・エドワード島のクリフトン（現在のニューロンドン）で生まれた。1935年にフランス芸術院会員となり、また、大英帝国勲位も受けた。同年、一家はトロントへ移った。モンゴメリは1942年にトロントで亡くなった。著作 / 1908年の『赤毛のアン』の成功の後、1909年の第2作『アンの青春』など、『赤毛のアン』シリーズ（アン・ブックス）を含め生涯に20冊の小説と短編集を書いた。特に『赤毛のアン』は何度も映画化され、40か国語に翻訳されるなどの成功を収めた。『赤毛のアン』は日本では、1952年に村岡花子により翻訳・紹介され、主に少女たちの間で熱狂的に愛読された。のちに、中学の国語の教科書に収録され、1979年に世界名作劇場シリーズでテレビアニメ『赤毛のアン』として放送された。モンゴメリの生地、プリンス・エドワード島を訪れる日本人観光客は多い。（L・M・モンゴメリ – Wikipedia）

Lucy Maud Montgomery, OBE (November 30, 1874 – April 24, 1942), published as L.M. Montgomery, was a Canadian author best known for a series of novels beginning in 1908 with Anne of Green Gables. The book was an immediate success. The central character, Anne Shirley. The first novel was followed by a series of sequels with Anne as the central character. Montgomery went on to publish 20 novels as well as 530 short stories, 500 poems, and 30 essays. Most of the novels were set in Prince Edward Island, and locations within Canada’s smallest province became a literary landmark and popular tourist site – namely Green Gables farm, the genesis of Prince Edward Island National Park. She was made an officer of the Order of the British Empire. Montgomery’s work, diaries and letters have been read and studied by scholars and readers worldwide. 『赤毛のアン』（あかげのアン、原題: Anne of Green Gables）は、カナダの作家L・M・モンゴメリが1908年に発表した長編小説。特に児童を対象に書かれた作品ではないが、この数十年は児童文学とみなされている。原題のグリーンゲイブルズ (Green Gables) はアンが住むことになるカスバート家の屋号であり、直訳すると、「緑の切妻屋根」という意味になる。（赤毛のアン – Wikipedia）
