WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING?
We had a really busy time before Easter…

On 1st March, we played for our friends at Dorset Guitar Society…

You can read a review of our concert in their March newsletter. The review signs off with…

“we must try to get Hago back at some point in the future, because they are a highly enjoyable and professionally turned-out ensemble”

A fortnight later on March 15th, we returned to Hythe, on the edge of the New Forest, to the United Reformed Church – Cornerstone – for our fourth visit….

“The unique sound created by this unusual orchestra is produced by using 4 different sizes of classical guitar – an experience not to be missed.”

And is if that wasn’t enough, a fortnight later on March 29th, we travelled to Queen Mary’s Hall (part of QMC) in Basingstoke for a shared concert with the Basingstoke Rock Choir.

“Have you ever heard of a Guitar Orchestra? I hadn’t. It is brilliant. And the players clearly love what they are doing! No electrics, just beautiful mellow classical guitars on which they gave us an hour long medley of famous tunes – Penny Lane, Woman, Eternal Flame and many more. Derek Hasted leads and presents their show with a dry, wry sense of humour that had us in stitches”

WHAT’S COMING UP?
On Saturday July 5th, we’re playing at Hayling Island Community Centre, raising money to provide a local presence at the World Scout Jamboree

JOIN US
hago isn’t “the organisation”, it’s the people – the players (nearly all amateur guitarists) are what makes hago fun, are what makes our concerts popular and our fund-raising (£60,000 for charity so far) so impressive.
But from time to time, we say goodbye to players – recently we’ve had a retirement and someone moving to Yorkshire.
So we’re looking for new players.

if you’re local to us, and you play guitar, get in touch (reply to this email) and discover that there is not one but TWO ensembles you can join – yes, we have something on offer for classical guitarists from 9 months’ experience upwards!
If you have a guitar teacher, tell them we’re recruiting – they may have other players who’d love our unique opportunity.
If you can put the word around for us – we’d really appreciate it!

People say it’s a massive commitment, but it’s 16-18 evenings a year to rehearse (and often to eat cake!) and 8-10 concerts (usually on Saturdays).
When we say “a vacancy or two”, that’s because, like a real orchestra, we have orchestrations that mean that two or three people play each line of our arrangements and right at the moment we could do with a bit more “oomph” in our B and C sections. Find out more about joining us on our website.
