After the 5 prizes in international contests achieved by Ruben Bettencourt in the year of 2011, the young guitarist restarts the new season of 2012 with interviews, appearances in Media and Press, and concerts in the the end of January!

Ruben Bettencourt was targeted for interviews while in Azores for Concerts. The young Azorean has been frequently invited to tell his life story and mainly his career and and ambitions in the future in the art of the instrument.

Ruben Bettencourt will be in concert January 21st at Oporto´s Literary Club, initiating his 2012 Season Tour, The young guitarist presents pieces of Vassiliev, Turina, Rodrigo and Ginastera. BIOGRAPHY
For many Music critics and lovers, Ruben Bettencourt is considered to be one of the best Portuguese classic guitarists of his generation. His concerts stand out by his total commitment to Music and for the emotions he provides his public.
More than a guitarist, he strives for the elegance and spontaneity that Music provides him.
He was born in Angra do Heroísmo, Terceira Island, Azores, Portugal.
He started his musical studies at the age of 6 with the Azorean teacher Victor Castro, initially in private lessons, continuing his studies in Regional Conservatory of Angra do Heroísmo (Conservatório Regional de Angra do Heroísmo), where he obtained 19 (in an evaluation scale of 0-20) the area of Classical Guitar.
Besides the various recitals through this school he attended, he presented himself in public in Portugal (Azores Island and the Continent), Italy, Germany, Poland, Spain, Holand, Servia and Croatia.
Among the events of the area in which he is present, nationally and internationally, he was invited to give solo concerts and master classes in various national festivals such as; “Elogio da Guitarra” (Guarda – 2009) and “Ciclo da Bairrada 09” (2009 – Oliveira do Bairro), “Temporada de Música”(Azores, 2010), “Festival de Música de Coimbra 2010” (Coimbra 2010), Guitarmania 2011 (Almada – Lisbon), TEDxAveiro (Aveiro 2011), along with others.
He has presented himself in concert in acknowledged rooms such as: Aveiro Theatre (Teatro Aveirense), The National Conservatory (Conservatório Nacional), The National Library (Biblioteca Nacional), Palácio Foz (The Foz Palace) (with recording for Rádio Difusão Portuguesa – Antena 2), The Joanina Library – Universiy of Coimbra (Biblioteca Joanina), among others.
Between 2006 and 2009, he finishes his “Licentiate Degree in Music” in the University of Aveiro, guided by Dr. Paulo Vaz de Carvalho and Pedro Rodrigues, in the area of Classical Guitar, where he obtained 19 (in an evaluation scale of 0-20).
In the area of Chamber Music he was guided by Dr. Chagas Rosa and Dra. Helena Marinho.

Between 2009-2011 , he finishes his “Master in Music” in the prestigious Conservatory of Maastricht (Netherlands), guided by the world-known professor, Carlo Marchione, where he obtained 9 (in an evaluation scale 0-10) and in 2011 also guided by Joaquin Clerch, in Dusseldorf (Germany).
In 2011, he start’s the “PHD in Music” in University of Aveiro, being within the youngest.
He has participated in improvement courses with prestiged guitarrists such as: José Mesquita Lopes, Tomás Camacho, Manuel Tavares, Jorge Cardoso, Roland Dyens, Giulio Tampalini, Pedro Rodrigues, Dejan Ivanovic, Marco Socías, Hubert Käppel, Roberto Aussel, Ignacio Rodes, Marcin Dylla, Christian Haimel, Jeremy Jouve, Łukasz Kuropaczewski, Phillipe Villa, Marek Zielinski, Znibew Dubiella, Marcin Zalewski, Carlo Marchione, Judicäel Perroy, Josef Zsapka, Kevin Gallagher, Michalis Kontaxakis, Aniello Desiderio, Marco Tamayo, Alberto Ponce, Alvaro Pierri, Margarita Escarpa, Matthew Mcallister, Denis Azabagic, Cláudio Marcotulli, Ricardo Barceló, Alexis Mouzourakis, Graham Devine, Laura Young, Joaquin Clerch, Zoran Duckíc, Rafael Aguirre, Tilman Hoppstock, Dimitris Kontronakis, Franz Halász, Yves Storms, with distinguished contemporary Italian composers Giancarlo Facchinetti, Antonio Giacometti and Giovanni Podera and with the pianist Gustav Van Manen.

He was rewarded in competitions such as:
- “I concurso Luso-Espanhol”- Fafe, Portugal (2007 – 1st Prize in ex-aequo);
- “V Concurso Internacional de Guitarra” – Leiria, Portugal (2008 – Honorable Mention);
- “X Concurso Internacional Comarca el Condado” – Spain (2010 – Finalist);
- “Axis Gitaar Concours 2010 – Twents Gitaarfestival” – Holand (2010 – 4th Place);
- “ VII Concurso Internacional de Guitarra – III Festival Internacional de Guitarra de Leiria” – Leiria, Portugal (2010 – 1st Prize and prize for best interpreter of Portuguese music);
- ” IV Concurso Norba Caeserina” – Spain (2010 –2nd Prize);
- “XI Concurso Internacional Comarca del Condado” – Spain (2011 – Publics Choice Award and Finalist);
- “World Guitar Competition 2011” – Servia (2011 –2nd Prize);
- “Omis Guitar Festival 2011” – Croatia (2011 – 2nd Prize);
- “Concurso de Guitarra São João da Madeira” – Portugal (2011 – 2nd Prize);
- “Norba Caeserina 2011 Competition” – Spain (2011 – 3rd Prize)

He was nominated the “Portuguese of the Week” (“Português da Semana”) in the 3rd week of July 2007, in the magazine “Domingo” of the newspaper “Correio da Manhã”.

Through invites, he records and presents himself live on the Portuguese channels RTP and RDP-Antena 2, he is interviewed for various national and international radio stations, as well as the Portuguese press.
